I’ve been fishing as long as I can remember. I didn’t always used to fish with a fly though. Being finnish, I grew up with Rapala, probably the single most effective fishing lure there is. They still catch good fish.

Yep, I bet Rapala is the H-bomb in the Finnish koskis. It works anywhere. Why did you stop using the Rapala and start fly fishing?

I never stopped using the rapala. I still use it at the lake Päijänne, where we have our summer house.
What comes to fishing the rapids, I just fell in love with dry fly fishing. That kind of experiense you cannot really get with Rapala. Also casting is more fun.
I also have very fond memories of the Rapala lures. I remember owning one small floating minnow that caught me so much fish I started calling it “The Beast”. After countless perches, pikes and trouts, it was eventually lost in a battle against a very much bigger beast. I bought a new, exactly similar Rapala, but it never had the same magic. So I switched to fly fishing 😉
