What do Finns do when they have a frozen lake and a sauna? Well, they make a hole in the ice, warm up the sauna to over 100 degrees celsius and take a bath in the lake. This is the Toivanen brothers at their summer cottage quite recently. The water may seem cold but it’s actually a lot warmer than the outside air (not the sauna air).
There you are! Sauna and Finnland! I visited Finnland in Winter, too. I must say I missed this experience. How long do you stand the 100 degree celsius (did I read right?)? 1 minute, 2 minutes? 30 secs?
Man, that looks (and sounds) cold!
The weird ways of the Finns never cease to surprise me.
Alessandro – yes, I think we had between 100 and 115 degrees celsius in the sauna. You can sit there quite a while but when you start pouring water on the hot rocks, then you get the real heat.
I think something like 5-10 minutes in the sauna is nice, then a break, then in again, into the lake, sauna, lake, air, beer, sauna and so it goes on for hours and hours.
It is a fact – they are crazy!
